Mind Control With Derren Brown: Yet Another Show That Should Not Be On SciFi

Derren Brown: You seem like a nice bloke and I’m glad you have your own TV show. But why on earth are you on the SciFi Channel?
I just watched the first 10 minutes of Mind Control With Derren Brown. In that time, he’s made people at a mall put their arms up into the air (although we were not allowed to hear the 20 minutes of pre-hypnotic suggestion he played on the loudspeaker), used some sort of slight of hand to “guess” how much people had in their wallets, and charmed some pretty ladies.
I was curious to see the show if only that Brown is a hypnotist and I do hypnosis myself (though not the stage variety). I don’t think this is a bad show, but I wasn’t drawn in to watch the whole thing and I certainly don’t think this belongs on SciFi.
This is a nice channel flipper show that would work well on some other cable network that has more stuff like this. It is not, in any way, science fiction. It wasn’t even that amazing. Interesting, but not freaky interesting. I wish I could say I was wowed, but…ehhh. Not mind blowing enough to make me sit through an hour of it. Something that maybe I’d watch part of if I were skimming through the dial, looking to find something to pass a little time while a friend was over.
So once again, the Powers That Be at SciFi have shown their complete and utter lack of understanding of sci-fi…or, are perhaps, in conjunction with fare such as wrestling and Destination: Truth, are looking to turn SciFi into a cross between a paranormal Discovery Channel and Spike TV.
At least John Edward was talking with the dead.
Get it together, programming people, please.

Not as bad as wrestling, but gotta agree…this belongs on USA or some other channel. Hopefully the survey will help guide these guys away from their silly programming ideas.

Seriously. They’re still sitting on The Dresden Files, but they’re greenlighting and airing random reality shows?? I get that reality shows are cheaper to produce than scripted ones, but if the programming wonks follow only the dollars, they’re going to lose all track of their channel’s mission.
