The New Star Trek Trailer

I’ve seen the new Star Trek trailer on TV and I have to say, it looks pretty good. I’m still not sold nor do I have my hopes up. I’m also wondering why it was so important to show a clip of a woman in an Uhuru-style red dress pulling it off to show her bra. One thing I would not like to see resurrected from the original series is a subordinate role for women in 60s go-go boots with Kirk as a universal playboy. Some spice is nice but not if it’s going to be exploitative.

I agree…i’m invigorated by the energy of the trailer but also apprehensive that its trying to hard to emolate star wars or battlestar galactica in its desire to make 90210 in space (lookit us moody twenty-somethings try get along!). I know & understand that any star trek series always got a kick in the rating pants with scientific hotties but lets leave the gratuitous booty-call dogs of the 60’s lie–after all wasn’t Star Trek groundbreaking because Roddenberry believed prejudice, sexism & racism would become a hopeless anachronism of the future?

While I only saw what I gather is the first trailer, I also have some mixed feelings. It does look like Star Wars with Star Trek ships.
Hey, it wouldn’t be Kirk if he didn’t have a fling with some green chick or something, would it?I suspect if there is some of that, they will tone that down and try to make it more serious, like they did with Casino Royale. Honestly, JJ Abrams seems to want to give the original series a credible face, and I don’t think that would invovle all that much gratuitious sex.

I’m mixed about this…I like some of the retro touches…but I think Trek can go other places besides rehashing TOS…there’s only one Captain Kirk IMO – The Shat!
